On Friday, September 20th, the CCISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Construction Technology program held its fall advisory committee meeting where one topic of discussion amongst the 24 members present was the new house-build project being ahead of schedule due to productive students and favorable weather conditions.
Both the project and the program reached a new milestone this past Tuesday, October 1st. Under bright skies and fall temperatures, local representatives from industry worked closely with our instructors and students to help successfully set the trusses on the new home in Houghton—a step towards its anticipated completion in the 2025-26 school year.
Industry representatives enhanced the learning process and showed the incredible impact local partners can have on education. These collaborations offer our students real-world insights into the construction industry, emphasizing teamwork, safety, and the practical application of their classwork. Such experiences are instrumental in preparing students for future careers and building a strong, skilled workforce within our region.
We are grateful to Craig Palosaari of DP Construction, Robert Tuomi of T-Square Construction, and David Anderson of Keweenaw Crane Service for assisting and lending a hand with setting the trusses. We are also appreciative of the numerous local contractors and businesses that have contributed time, resources, and knowledge to this project along the way and into the future.
Steve Aho of Moyle Construction and Chairperson for the CTE Construction Tech program's advisory committee commented at the recent fall advisory meeting, "The support we've received from local contractors and businesses from across the Copper Country to this project is incredible. Everyone has been focused on making this a true learning experience unlike any other for local students from across our region. It is showing the true power of what working together can achieve. Together, we're not only building a house but also a foundation of skills for future generations to perhaps one day use locally and contribute to our wonderful community."
Thank you to everyone involved for making this educational opportunity available to Copper Country students and as a shining example of community partnership.
