HANCOCK – The Copper Country Intermediate School District (CCISD) is proud to announce a significant collaboration in its Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Carter Worm, a junior from Calumet High School and a CTE Automotive Tech program leader, has been raising funds to attend the Skills USA National Competition in Atlanta, GA.

Carter gathered numerous donations from several local businesses and organizations but needed to catch up for the costly trip that included steep registration, hotel, and airline fees.  On Monday, Carter received thrilling news: the remaining funds he needs will be covered by the efforts of his peers thanks to the recent silent auction sale of a sauna built by the CTE Construction students.

The collaboration between the Construction and Automotive programs has been exemplary. While the construction program assists with Carter's trip, the automotive program has already returned the favor through its recently accepted donation of two minivans from Michigan Tech University’s Husky Motors. The Automotive class successfully repaired and got the two minivans running properly.  However, the Construction program will benefit most as the vans will primarily be used to transport Construction students to and from the CTE house-build project in Houghton next year.

David Narhi, CTE Automotive Tech Instructor, commented on the collaborative efforts: "The partnership amongst our programs is remarkable. Our students learn technical skills and the value of teamwork and support. Repairing the donated vans from MTU’s Husky Motors to be used primarily by another CTE program is just one example of how we share our strengths to benefit all students.  We helped out with something the Construction program needed. They helped out Carter so that he can represent not only our CTE Automotive Tech program but also Calumet High School and the entire Copper Country ISD at the Skills USA Nationals in late June .”

Mike Randell, CTE Construction Tech Instructor, added, "Seeing our students come together to help each other across different disciplines is awesome. The sale of the sauna and the support we can offer Carter to help make his trip to the Skills USA Nationals happen is just the right thing to do and is simply part of the strong sense of community we have here at CTE."

Carter’s achievement and support are a testament to the hard work and dedication of students and instructors within the CCISD CTE programs. This level of collaboration and mutual support enhances the educational experience and prepares students for successful futures in their chosen fields.

The CCISD is committed to providing exceptional education and vocational training, ensuring our students are well-equipped for their future careers and community contributions.
