MARQUETTE - The Copper Country Community Transition Council recently arranged an educational field trip to Northern Michigan University for ten junior and senior students from five school districts including Baraga, Houghton, Hancock, Horizons, and Chassell. This visit catered specifically to students with an IEP or a 504 Plan who are exploring careers in trade fields.

During their time at the university, the students received a comprehensive introduction from the admissions team, outlining the process of applying to college. They also gained insights on how to arrange for necessary academic accommodations through a presentation by the Student Services office.

A significant portion of the visit involved a guided tour through the Jacobetti Center, where students explored various trade programs such as controlled environment agriculture, automotive technology, construction, electrical, HVACR, industrial maintenance, and welding. Experts in each field discussed educational pathways and potential career opportunities in depth.

The tour also included a visit to the Northern Center, where the culinary, hospitality, and cosmetology programs were showcased, giving students a broad view of the diverse career options available at NMU.

The day concluded with lunch in the university's cafeteria, allowing the students to experience a slice of campus life. This field trip was a valuable step in helping these students visualize their future educational and career possibilities and support their personal transition goals.
